Certificate Course On BRSR Reporting

BUSINESS RESPONSIBILITY AND SUSTAINABILITY REPORTING

25OCTOBER2025-23NOVEMBER2025

Why BRSR? Why Now?

Business Responsibility and Sustainability Reporting (BRSR) is an integrated framework introduced by SEBI to strengthen disclosures on a company’s environmental, social, and governance (ESG) performance. It requires the top 1,000 listed companies in India to include BRSR in their annual reports from FY 2022–23 onwards, ensuring that businesses adopt responsible practices and align with global sustainability standards. The purpose of BRSR is to encourage companies to integrate ESG considerations into their operations, improve the quality and comparability of non-financial disclosures, and build greater trust with stakeholders through transparent reporting. In today’s world, where businesses are evaluated not only on financial results but also on their sustainability commitments, BRSR has become crucial. It enhances compliance, boosts investor confidence, helps organizations identify and manage sustainability risks, and positions companies competitively in global markets. By embedding ESG into core strategy, BRSR enables long-term value creation and proves that responsible business is not just ethical, but also profitable.

About the course

The course is designed to provide a strong practical foundation in ESG concepts, with a special focus on India’s leading national disclosure framework under SEBI’s Business Responsibility and Sustainability Reporting (BRSR) standards. It equips participants with the skills to understand, interpret, and implement both BRSR and BRSR Core while addressing the evolving regulatory expectations that define sustainability, responsible business conduct, and corporate governance in India. The program covers the foundations and evolution of BRSR, including its regulatory journey through MCA, SEBI, and NGRBC, and highlights the role of stakeholders such as investors, regulators, consumers, and employees who rely on BRSR disclosures. Participants will explore the corporate benefits of ESG/BRSR reporting in building investor confidence, ensuring compliance, and driving long-term value creation. They will also gain mastery over the BRSR framework, including Annexure II (section-wise disclosures) and Annexure I (BRSR Core assurance), and understand the distinction between SEBI’s mandatory reporting for listed entities and voluntary adoption for smaller or unlisted firms. In addition, the course builds essential data skills for collecting, collating, and presenting ESG data in structured formats, while mapping BRSR disclosures to global frameworks such as the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Through practical exercises, participants will prepare BRSR templates and analyse real corporate reports, ensuring hands-on application of the concepts learned.

Course Content

Through four in-depth modules, this comprehensive BRSR Reporting certificate course provides participants with a strong foundation in sustainability and corporate responsibility tailored to India’s evolving regulatory landscape. It begins by introducing the fundamentals of ESG and tracing the evolution of disclosure norms in India, including the MCA, SEBI, and NGRBC frameworks that led to the creation of the Business Responsibility and Sustainability Reporting (BRSR) standards. Participants will then learn how BRSR integrates into core business strategy across sectors such as finance, HR, operations, and governance, while also understanding the role of stakeholders—investors, regulators, employees, and consumers—who rely on these disclosures. The course provides hands-on training in interpreting and implementing BRSR and BRSR Core, including section-wise disclosures (Annexure II) and assurance mechanisms (Annexure I), while distinguishing between SEBI’s mandatory requirements for listed entities and voluntary adoption for smaller firms. Practical exercises will enable participants to conduct materiality assessments, collect and present ESG data using structured templates, and prepare full BRSR reports aligned with global frameworks such as GRI, ISSB, SASB, and the UN SDGs. In addition, the program covers the legal intersections of BRSR with corporate governance, labour codes, and environmental regulations, along with strategies to mitigate greenwashing risks, ensure third-party assurance, and navigate ESG audits. The course concludes with modules on aligning BRSR with sustainable finance, carbon markets, and enterprise risk management, ultimately enabling participants to transform BRSR reporting from a regulatory obligation into a driver of long-term value creation, investor confidence, and stakeholder trust.
